Phlebotomist job description

Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, donations, and research, label and handle every specimen, and keep patients calm through the draw. Some travel between sites to set up mobile donation centers or to visit long term care residents and patients at home. BLS puts this among the occupations with the highest rates of injury and illness, because the job means handling blood, needles, and sharp equipment all day. May 2025 pay came to $45,230 at the middle, or $21.75 an hour, in a field of 143,900.
