Certification is the difference the title names, and three routes lead to it. The CMA from the American Association of Medical Assistants runs on accreditation: a CAAHEP or ABHES program is the standard route in. The RMA from American Medical Technologists carries an annual renewal. The CCMA from the National Healthcareer Association accepts either a training program finished inside the last five years or documented supervised work experience, and renews every two years with 10 continuing education credits. Several states add requirements of their own.
